The Outdoor Experience!

"When one tugs at a single thing in nature... he finds it attached to the rest
 of the world."

- - John Muir

Choose one of our workshops or we can work with you to help create your own "outdoor experience". For example, treeplanting, plant identification and/or nature interpretation, stream clean-ups, invasive species removal. Call the LEPS Education Coordinator at (604) 532-3514.

Outdoor Workshops:

Streaming Along - Modified for grades 4 to 12, 2.5 hours in length.

Students discover the ecology of our local streams through hands-on investigation of the Salmon River. Conduct water quality testing, fish identification and aquatic invertebrate sampling at scenic Williams Park.

Storm Drain Marking; Paint a fish to save a fish! - All Grades, ½ day.

Students go out into the community to paint a yellow fish near storm drains that flow directly into salmon habitat. This activity raises community awareness as to how we affect our streams. This activity can be done in the immediate area of the school. All materials are provided. Weather permitting.

Many people are not aware that everything that goes into a storm drain (rainwater, soap, oil, antifreeze, gasoline, sand, soil) enters the nearest stream or waterway UNFILTERED!

To date, over 70 community groups and individuals have painted drains in their neighbourhoods!
